How to Install Kodi on Chromebooks – Setup Kodi on Chromebook

Don’t get alarmed by the fact that the Creator channel has the word “unstable” next to it.  All that means is that you might be more likely to run into glitches and bugs when you use your Chromebook.  You can always switch back to “stable” mode if glitches prove to be too much of an issue.

Note: Switching from “beta” to “stable” mode will remove all your downloaded files.  Be sure to back everything up before you make the change. 

STEP #2: GET ARC WELDER


Arc Welder is a instrument that Google creator use to do on new software.  Anyway, you don’t need to be a creator to download and use it.  Just follow this link to get to the Arc Welder download page and then click “install.”

STEP #3: DOWNLOAD A KODI APK


Next, you should do to connect to a Android application package (APK) site and download a Kodi APK.

There a lot of APK sites out there.  Although, some are more trustworthy than others.  We highly recommend that you use the popular APK site APKMirror to download the Kodi APK.

Once you detect the Kodi APK, pick the variant that matches up with your Chromebook system and download it to your downloads folder.

STEP #4: CONFIGURE ARC WELDER

Right now, click on the “Test” button in the lower right.  It will take few minutes for Kodi to initialize the first time you run the test.

Once Kodi loads, you can use it just like you normally would on any other platform.

TURN THE KODI APK INTO A GOOGLE CHROMEEXTENSION


The Arc Welder application can allow to you to run Kodi on Chrome OS, even if you don’t have GooglePlay.  But what if you don’t wish to go through the long process described above every time you want to run Kodi?

Thankfully, there’s a decision.

Here’s how to turn the Kodi APK into a Google Chrome extension.

First of all open up Google Chrome. Click the three dots in the top right-hand corner, then scroll down to more tools. Next, click extensions.

Make sure that developer mode is checked at the top of the page.

If you have already tested the Kodi APK with Arc Welder, you need to detect a file named KODI.apk_export.  Choose it to add Kodi to your Chrome OS extensions.

Note: You shouldnt worry about the pink warning box around Kodi.  It just means that the extension wasn’t created in the “normal” way.  

After that you will have Kodi setup as a Google Chrome extension, you can use it just like a normal extension. Next just click the Kodi icon when you’re ready to use Kodi.

NOW THAT YOU’VE GOT KODI, INSTALL SOME 3RD PARTY APP


Perhaps first that you want to do after you setup Kodi is try out a several 3rd party App.
